Fizzlin' Flames fail to bury Avalanche

This was the Calgary Flames' chance to jam a fork in the Colorado Avalanche.

To shove the Avs into a six-foot trench, shovel on a heap of dirt and do a giddy good-riddance Charleston on the grave.

To put the Colorado-Quebec franchise on the outs come springtime for the first time in 13 years, since fellows such as Stephane Fiset, Alexei Gusarov, Andrei Kovalenko, Steve Finn and a long-locked rookie named Chris Simon were wearing those eye-catching blue-and-white fleur-de-lis sweaters.
