Flames host desperate Avalanche

On most days, a date with a basement-dwelling team would be something to look forward to. That won't be the case when the Calgary Flames host the Colorado Avalanche Thursday night.

The Avalanche may be the last-place team in the tight Northwest Division, but in a grouping where only 10 points separate the first-place Flames from the fifth-place Avalanche, no win is a given, especially with post-season berths still up for grabs.

Goaltender Peter Budaj will need to keep players like Alex Tanguay off the scoresheet if the Avalanche hope to defeat the Flames on Thursday.
Thursday's contest will be the first of two straight games between the clubs at Calgary's Pengrowth Saddledome. They meet again Saturday night.
